Sierra Foothills Wine Country
A Location Nestled in a Historic Small Town
At the core, we call Historic Downtown Sutter Creek home, a kinetic small-town community of farmers, designers, growers and craftspeople. Basking in the middle of Amador Country's scenic and bountiful Sierra Foothills, our town enjoys a generous helping of Northern California’s many offerings, from incredible food, wine and hospitality to awe-inspiring natural wonders. From the Hanford House, you can easily walk to tasting rooms, restaurants, and a bevy of eclectic boutiques in downtown Sutter Creek, or journey out of town to one of many wineries within a 20-minute drive in any direction of Amador County.
At the Heart of Amador County
Lying on the edge of the Sierra Nevadas, the Sierra Foothills AVA is a lengthy patchwork of rolling vineyards, orchards, farmhouses and untouched strands of fields. The Foothills is a world unto itself worth exploring but also a short drive to the diverse terrain that California is beloved for amongst its vast various climates.
The rolling hills, alpine forests, snow-capped mountains, blue-ribbon rivers and adventurous lakes are all within driving distance of the Hanford House. This is to say nothing of the countless welcoming towns that dot the Foothills and beyond and our hustling metropolis, Sacramento, just an hour’s drive west.
Experience Seasonality
We experience all four seasons at the Hanford House, each one having its long list of merits.
Spring is mild and colorful, with a palpable sense of excitement rooted in Sierra Foothill’s rich agricultural legacy.
The long, warm days of summer are celebratory and filled with iconic festivals and outdoor dining after the heat settles.
Autumn is harvest time when hillsides go aglow with bright colors and the region’s many wineries bustle with artisanal activity.
Winter spells intimacy, a peaceful stretch made extra cozy courtesy of Sutter Creek’s signature charm and hearty seasonal fare.
